School Culture

Why:

  • Through the House Team Program, our School Culture Committee’s aim is to establish a positive school culture within which each student and staff member feels a sense belonging, connection, and purpose.

What & How:
The House Team Program

  • assigns students and staff to one of four House Teams
  • provides opportunities to collaborate as a team through challenges and school-wide event
  • builds connection through interactions among team members across grade level
  • seeks to foster positive attitudes and encourage collaboration
  • motivates the development of leadership abilities and behaviour
  • ensures that all students and staff feel valued, included, and engaged

Benefits:

  • The House Team program provides the structure and opportunity for students to build relationships across grade levels to ultimately create a cohesive school environment, in which each student recognizes they are an integral part of our École Edwards community. Benefits to students also include fostering a sense of belonging and identity, promoting the development of leadership skills, creating connections with students and staff to build smaller communities within our larger community, and establishing an overall sense of solidarity among all.

Our Progress:

  • This year, we have welcomed all students and staff to their House Team and have planned school-wide events to promote school spirit and pride for each team, as well as our greater school community. As a committee, we are developing lessons that will be taught across all grades to create a shared understanding of the founding principles of our program: Belonging, Generosity, Independence, and Mastery.
