Principal's Message

For the 2020-21 school year, many of us are reflecting on the challenges we’ve been experiencing in the world around us. At École Edwards, we have been working to support our students, staff and parents to continue to make learning engaging, and to find creative ways to build resiliency while growing as a community of learners. We are very excited to continue the work we began last year to develop strong connections between students, staff, and the community while recognizing that the landscape in which we began this work has shifted; in small ways for some and dramatically for others. With this understanding, we are moving forward with social/emotional programming to support all students, their families, and our staff.

This year, our focus is to continue to meet the needs of all children using the whole child approach. The ‘Whole Child’ approach is an effort to transition from a focus on academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children under our care.

One of the foundations that will help to bolster this growth is continued development of a sense of belonging for all through our House Teams program. Each student and staff member belong to a team for the length of their time at Edwards and beyond. This program will go hand in hand with the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) that teaches students the importance of our three pillars of being RESPECTFUL, SAFE, and RESPONSIBLE in every aspect of our school life.

To support the social/emotional needs of our students we will continue to work collaboratively to implement the Circle of Courage that is the foundation of our school’s character-building program. Our School Culture Committee will be teaching the virtue of belonging and the importance around the desire of all children to feel like they belong and are respected in their school community. All children have the desire to be loved and find a place where they fit in. At École Edwards we value each child, and it is so important for students to feel like they have a supportive community around them at school. This strong sense of community will give our students and staff a sense of belonging in the class with their peers, on the playground and in their school community.

We are also revisioning who we are as a school and what it means to be a part of École Edwards. We look forward to working with students, staff, families, the community, our Trischool partners, and Rocky View Schools to build the spirit of collaboration and to embrace our goal of learning, leading, and succeeding. We have been very intentional in meeting with students, parents, and the Tri-School Team to work at meeting the needs of all three schools and the all the students under our care.

We are proud to be a bilingual school and to offer quality programming in English and French. Our staff work together to ensure students are supported in both languages in all subject areas including literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional well-being. At Edwards, our whole child approach ensures that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged, we believe that this sets the standard for comprehensive, sustainable school improvement and provides for long-term student success.
