Lunches/Snacks

Why are healthy lunches and snacks important at school?

A healthy lunch and snacks provides children with the energy and nutrients they need to grow and learn and play at school. Without adequate energy from food, they may feel sluggish and find it difficult to concentrate in class.  Students are encouraged to snack when needed, as long as it doesn't distract them or others from their learning.   Please pack several small, healthy snacks along with a fresh, home made lunch daily for your child.  Please also be aware that no products with nuts or seeds are to be sent to school with your child.

Remember:

  • Nutritious lunches and snacks provide children with many of the essential vitamins and minerals they require for healthy growth and development.
  • Children tend to have small stomachs, so they can't eat a lot at one sitting. Healthy snacks keep children from feeling famished by mealtime, which can help prevent nutrient poor food choices and overeating.
  • Providing healthy lunches and snacks helps children form healthy eating habits that can last throughout their lives.
