At Ecole Edwards, we host two Scholastic Book Fairs during the year.  One is held in the first half of the year, usually in October or November during our Student Learning Showcases, and the other is held during the second half of the year, in spring .  These events are a wonderful way to promote literacy in our school, as well as an opportunity for us to raise funds to support our Learning Commons programs.  Did you know that for every $10 you spend at the Fair up to $6 goes directly back to our school? Your support of this vital literary fundraiser is key to our obtaining new books and other resources for our Learning Commons and classrooms. In the past, funds raised from Scholastic Book Fairs have been used to purchase new LC materials, pay for author visits and other special events, and to support our transition from a traditional library to a Learning Commons.

Spring Thing Book Fling logoSpring Fling Book Thing

Every year, the Edwards Learning Commons hosts the Spring Fling Book Thing.  This used book sale is held towards the end of the school year, usually in April or May.  This event is a great way for children to get fantastic books at very reasonable prices.  Magazines are .10, paperbacks are .25 and hardcovers are .50.  It is also a great leadership opportunity for our student Learning Commons leaders, who run the entire event from sorting and organizing the books, creating the advertising, to working the cash during the actual sale.  Funds raised from this event are split in half, with a portion of the money going to a local non-profit organization decided upon by the student Learning Commons leaders, and the rest going towards purchasing LC materials in honour of our grade 4 graduating classes.

We very gratefully accept donations of children's books and magazines for this sale beginning in January.
